I have two very quick questions about Halo 3?

The first question is, when playing on the game, alone, in the matchmaking mode, does the game allow you to add bots in, like Gears of War, so you can still have fun without having to have Live or anything? The second question is pretty simple: does Master Chief die in the end of the game? I beat it and watched the cinematic and I couldn't figure it out.
